Director of Programming

The Plant Development Company LLC (“The Plant”)  is a New York City-based real estate development, operations and program design company born out of the Lela Goren Group, which specializes in transformative adaptive-reuse projects that power buildings to create change.  The initial historic redevelopments represent the industry’s first integrated model for sustainable real estate development that drive social impact with catalytic investment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead The Plant’s climate and social justice programming, from conception through to execution and reporting
  • Identify, define, create, plan, manage and executive produce all Plant programming, delivering high-quality and impactful content
  • Drive roll-outs of Plant programming to the Plant community, partner ecosystem and external outlets
  • Oversee The Plant programmatic partners, community and scientists that will all contribute to The Plant’s programming
  • Identify further Plant programmatic partners that can contribute to Plant programming
  • Ensure that Plant programming is consistent with The Plant’s goals, strategies and within The Plant’s governance doctrine
  • Position The Plant as an obvious candidate for donors in the climate space and lead business development efforts with the President
  • Maintain fluency in the climate movement and general climate policy through the Director’s network, conferences, papers and events engaging with various thought leaders
  • Be an integral member of the Plant community as a ‘go to’ resource for climate and social justice issues/priorities
  • Manage and mentor content producers, partners and producers modeling healthy collaborative relationships that deliver the best results
  • Coordinate with the local not-for-profit community around supportive programming that serves the local Plant community
  • Oversee the marketing and dissemination of Plant programming / climate agenda through Plant members, ecosystem and more broadly, the climate movement
  • Manage a multi-million dollar annual programming budget; report to management and the Advisory Board as and when required
Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of programming experience
  • At least a B.A. in a related field
  • Strong climate and social justice competency, professional and/or academic background strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience conceiving of unique climate programming, inclusive of social or other impact and reporting metrics thereof
  • Created multi-platform content that was consumed by a global audience
  • Proficiency managing relationships with key constituencies, internal staff, NGO’s, funders, corporate sponsors, not-for-profit and for-profit, civil society organizations
  • Overseen global partnerships in conception and execution of programming content; corporate partnership experience a plus
  • Experience in donor fundraising and demonstrated success raising funds against candidate’s content
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite, as well as core creative tools (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Excellent organizational skills - able to track large numbers of documents on multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced start-up environment
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to being a collaborative team player and problem-solver, while being self-motivated with a drive to work through uncertain situations
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and commitment to social, economic and environmental justice
